Manchester United close to Angel Gomes contract agreement, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United are close to agreeing a new contract with Angel Gomes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed.

The highly-rated academy graduate becomes a free agent at the end of the month, with major clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea linked with a move for his services.

United have been desperate to convince him to stay, with head of first team development Nicky Butt one of his biggest champions at the club.

But the protracted nature of his contract negotiations, with United believed to be prepared to pay him in the region of £30,000-a-week, has led to concerns the 19-year-old will walk away.

Solskjaer remains hopeful they will not lose one of their most promising emerging talents.

“He’s a top kid who we’ve had at the club for so many years. We’ve offered him a deal and hopefully he’ll take that and if not I wish him all the best.

“From what I understand it’s not too far away - but if not we’ll wish him all the best.”
