Harry Maguire has described Jadon Sancho as an 'exceptional talent' after Manchester United agreed to sign the winger.
United have paid Borussia Dortmund £72.9million for Sancho, 21, and the England international is due to complete his move after the European Championship.
Sancho has only been restricted to six minutes at the Euros and was omitted from the matchday squad for the opening game against Croatia, but he is said to be in contention to start against Ukraine in England's quarter-final in Rome.
Maguire missed England's first two matches through injury but has been superb since he returned to the side. The United captain stressed Sancho has to be patient in a squad teeming with attacking talent.
“Jadon’s a top player," Maguire said. "He has exceptional talent even though he is still really young, although he has played so many games.
“We’ve got some exceptional talent in his position in this England team, so Jadon will bide his time, be patient and be ready when his opportunity comes.
“I’ve been really impressed with the way he has been working in training. He’s really putting a shift in day in day out. He has some great talent. He is scoring goals in the five-a-sides and so on. He’s a great lad.
"I don't know if it's confirmed or not but I think they are nearly there in terms of signing him at club level. If he does sign and when he does sign I'm sure he's going to have a great career for Man United and be a big part of us being successful in the future.”
England are expected to switch to a back four against Ukraine, with Kieran Trippier likely to drop out to accommodate another forward.
Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka is a doubt after he sustained a knock in training on Friday.
