Manchester United captain Harry Maguire 'arrested' on Greek island

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been arrested whilst on holiday in Mykonos, according to local Greek news reports.

After being knocked out of the Europa League in the semi-finals against Sevilla last week, the England international has headed to the Greek island to relax before the new Premier League season.

But Greek newspaper Prota Thema report that he was detained after an incident outside a bar on Thursday night. There has so far been no official comment from local police.

A statement from Manchester United read: "The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night.

"Contact has been made with Harry and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities. At this time we will be making no further comment."

It is claimed that police were called by locals at 00:30 to report that two groups of Englishmen were fighting outside a bar on the island.

They allege that three men from the group attacked police verbally and physically when they intervened.

The trio, which included Maguire, were then reportedly taken to Mykonos police station where it is alleged the confrontation with two officers continued leading to their arrests.

Maguire was filmed taking in the sights of Mykonos on Thursday night.

Fans in Matagiannia recognised the centre-back and started singing his name as he made his way through the streets.

Maguire’s holiday comes after he was left “devastated’ by United’s Europa League exit in Germany last week.

After another semi-final defeat, he said: Maguire said: "We deserved to go through but ultimately we fell short at the semi-final stage, for the third time this season.

"It means a lot to us, the boys are devastated. We have a good group of lads who know what it means to play for this club and losing isn't acceptable.

"Getting to semi-finals isn't acceptable and we now have to look at taking it another step.

"Maybe that little bit of inexperience cost us in the end. Even when we are on top, creating chances we shouldn't concede that second goal.

"They worked it well down the right but we have to do better. We conceded from two crosses and it's not good enough."
