Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia appears to endorse Wayne Rooney transfer rumour

Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia has appeared to endorse a transfer rumour linking him with a move to Wayne Rooney's DC United.

Valencia is nearing the end of his United career, and is likely to leave the club at the end of the season. The 33-year-old has only played eight times this season and last featured in the 2-0 win at Newcastle on January 2.

There has been plenty of speculation as to where Valencia will end up this summer, with Premier League sides West Ham and Arsenal linked in some reports, as well as a move to the MLS.

One such rumour suggests MLS outfit DC United, where Wayne Rooney is captain, are after his services, and Valencia retweeted an account saying they hoped that was true.

An original tweet showing a clip of Valencia assisting a goal for Rooney in United colours claimed Valencia is in line for a two year deal to re-unite with his former striker, by 'special request' of one of them.

It translated as: "By special request of one of them, the Manchester United duo will return to reality in the capital of the USA. A 2-year contract would be closed with DC United."

Valencia then re-tweeted an account which quoted that tweet and said: "Good for @anto_v25 I wish it were!"

Rooney has been at DC since 2018, where he has scored 16 goals and provided 18 assists in 26 appearances.

Valencia had earlier tweeted "there are always people who do not respect" in response to a tweet from Ecuador teammate Jefferson Montero saying his account had been hacked.
