Manchester United can repeat Luke Shaw transfer trick to get best out of Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The incredible atmosphere. The joyous scenes of players celebrating. The potential to become immortalised across the nation.

How Aaron Wan Bissaka must long to be part of England's Euro 2020 squad alongside United fullback Luke Shaw.

Despite some solid defensive performances for the Reds, Wan-Bissaka is yet to make his Three Lions debut, resulting in whispers that he will instead opt to play for the Democratic Republic of Congo due to him being of Congolese descent.

England booked their place in Saturday's quarter-final against Ukraine after overcoming old foes Germany 2-0 on Tuesday - with United star Luke Shaw setting up Raheem Sterling's opener before having a huge hand in Harry Kane's goal as well.

Overlapping down the left flank and delivering in a delightful cross has become a recent theme of Shaw's game, with many attributing his consistent form down to the fact that he has finally faced stern competition for a starting role at club level.

Brazilian fullback Alex Telle s was brought in last summer to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's defence and many United supporters thought the former Porto man would displace Shaw in the starting XI.

However, this was not the case as Shaw gazumped Telles to start 30 Premier League games last term, with the 25-year-old given the club's Players' Player of the Year award, an achievement that was most definitely deserved considering his consistent displays.

United's right-sided fullback Aaron Wan-Bissaka enjoyed a somewhat indifferent season on the opposite flank, consistently putting in steady defensive performances but struggling in attacking areas and perhaps the 23-year-old would benefit from some competition of his own.

The former Crystal Palace defender started a whopping 54 games for the Reds last term and he may be suffering from the complacency that Shaw was accused of just 12 months ago.

Wan-Bissaka may boast some incredible defensive numbers but his attacking output pales in comparison, averaging just 1.42 shot-creating actions, 3.52 progressive passes and 0.05 xA (expected assists) per game.

Comparatively, Shaw registered 3.48 shot-creating actions, 5.58 progressive passes and 0.16 xA in these categories respectively, a worrying disparity for Solskjaer.

Therefore, it would likely be wise for the Norwegian coach to dip into the transfer market this summer and purchase a right-back that can either offer more than Wan-Bissaka or at the very least raise his level offensively.

The Reds are interested in Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier but the Spanish champions' valuation of the 30-year-old may put United off signing him.

They may look for a younger alternative in their bid to get the most out of Wan-Bissaka, who they paid a whopping £50million for just two years ago - or use Diogo Dalot as that competition.

Wan-Bissaka will hope he can improve on his chance creation and crossing ability in a bid to find his way into Gareth Southgate's England plans - with Chelsea's Reece James, City's Kyle Walker, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and the aforementioned Trippier all current ahead of him in the right-back pecking order.
