Arsenal's pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier has been dealt a blow as Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in the Englishman.
football.london first revealed back in May that the Gunners wanted to sign a right-back this summer but only if they could offload one of the full-backs in their ranks, something they have so far failed to do.
Spanish defender Hector Bellerin has been linked with a move away, with the likes of Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid both mooted as potential destinations, although the Nerazzurri have since signed Dutch wingback Denzel Dumfries, meaning a deal to bring Bellerin to the San Siro appears unlikely.
The north London club have since been thought to hold an interest in Trippier and football.london understands if the Gunners can offload some fringe players then they could go back into the market for a late signing.
Furthermore, head coach Mikel Arteta admitted last week that the club could still do some business before Tuesday's transfer deadline and the Spaniard may be forced to do some work given his side have lost all three of their Premier League games this season.
"We don’t know. We have already done a lot of things," the Spaniard said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Manchester City. "Ins and outs it’s a lot.
"I think it’s 16, 17 deals in total, with some renewals, and there are still some things to do in the last few days because there are still some question marks and deals that can happen. We’ll see."
However, Arsenal's pursuit of Trippier has been dealt a blow as Premier League rivals Manchester United could make a last-ditch move to bring the 30-year-old to Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.
The report claims that german outfit Borussia Dortmund have registered a loan bid for United’s Diogo Dalot as the Red Devils are said to be considering the offer if they can land a direct replacement, with Trippier on the shortlist.
The former Tottenham defender would surely choose to move to United over Arsenal given the former can offer him UEFA Champions League football whilst the Gunners are without any European football for the first time in 25 years.
