Manchester United break Premier League record with win over Aston Villa

Manchester United have broken a Premier League record with their victory over Aston Villa.

The Reds fell behind through Bertrand Traore's 24th-minute strike before second-half goals from Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani secured them a 3-1 victory.

It was another game where United got off to a slow start before improving considerably after half-time - and they have now broken the Premier League record for the number of victories in a season after conceding the first goal of a game.

The win was United's 10th victory after falling behind to their opponents this season, which has broken the previous record.

United's first-half record is the 12th-best in the Premier League, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side having led just seven times at half-time in the 34 matches they have played this season.

In contrast, United have the best second-half record in the Premier League, scoring 41 times in the second half of matches and conceding just 15 times.

Their second-half dominance was once again on show against Villa as they upped their performance when trailing at half-time.

United will need to call upon those same energy reserves in their next matches as they face a hectic schedule of two midweek matches.

After playing on Sunday, United now face Leicester City on Tuesday and Liverpool on Thursday.

Speaking post-match, Solskjaer hailed the significance of his side's win in the context of their schedule.

He said: "It's a massive result, it just takes a little bit of the pressure away.

"We can just go into the next one with confidence.

"Yeah, we know it's going to be hard and a physical test the next few days but we've got to make the most of it."
