Manchester United booed off at half-time as Atalanta leave Champions League hopes in danger

Manchester United fans made their feeling clear on Wednesday night as loud booed greeted their team at half-time with Atalanta winning 2-0.

Goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side trudge down the Old Trafford tunnel to the loud sound of boos.

Atalanta made the most of their limited possession and converted two of their three shots on target, Pasalic tapping home from yards out after a Davide Zappacosta cross and then Demiral beating both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire in the air at a corner.

United had their chances, two of the best falling to Fred in good positions only to see the Brazilian fluff his lines.

Marcus Rashford hit the crossbar with the last kick of the half but the mood from the crowd was already set after a tepid opening 45 minutes.

Manager Solskjaer was seen applauding the fans as he headed towards the tunnel and the home dressing room, and some supporters responded in kind, but the atmosphere inside Old Trafford was largely negative.

The result would leave United bottom of Group F with just three points from nine available.
