Manchester United blasted for 'lack of quality' in Norwich performance

Jamie Redknapp did not mince words in analysing Manchester United's first-half performance against Norwich City on Saturday evening.

United performed miserably in the first half, failing to threaten Norwich's goal on too many occasions whilst their defending and off-the-ball work had been suspect.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho were all wasteful in their attacking chances in the opening half.

But it was their work defensively which had infuriated Redknapp.

Speaking at half-time, Redknapp said: "They’ve been so wasteful. I don’t think I’ve seen a game where so many United players have given the ball away as much as they have.

"Rashford keeps dribbling with it, loses it, then is walking back. It’s been the same with Fernandes it’s been the same with Ronaldo giving the ball away you’ve got to protect it you’ve got to look after it.

"These moments have been fleeting, they've not really shown any quality and I think especially when they rested so many players in midweek I just wanted to see more from Man United."

The former midfielder then added that whilst he expects new manager Ralf Rangnick's system to take time, he believes the German coach must address some 'bad habits' within certain players in the squad.

He added: "But we all know it’ll take time but the manager will be in there looking at those players thinking a lot of them have really bad habits that they’ve got into.

"That has to change, the new manager has to get them working back, working sharper and without the ball because what I saw in the first half wasn’t good enough for Man United. What Norwich have been able to do is get the ball into wide areas.

"This is where they’re going to get some success."
