Manchester United betting: Reds' blow as Marcus Rashford ruled out for first two months of Premier League season

MARCUS RASHFORD has drifted out to 40/1 to win the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot after news broke on Tuesday night that the Manchester United striker looks set to miss the opening two months of the season.

The 23-year-old has decided to have surgery on a shoulder problem that has plagued him since the turn of the calendar year after it was decided the damage was so severe that rest alone would not repair it.

It is understood that Rashford’s operation will take place at the end of this month and is not expected to return to first team action until early November which, coincidentally is the same week United are scheduled to play Manchester City (November 6).

It looks almost certain that Rashford will miss the visit of Liverpool on October 23.

Rashford’s 17 goal tally in the 2019/20 league season is his best total so far, although his numbers have been affected by the loss of penalty taking duties to Bruno Fernandes.

The striker’s absence could also have major implications on United’s assault on a first league title since 2013 despite the arrival of long-term target Jadon Sancho.

United are 13/2 fourth-favourites to lift the Premier League trophy in May, behind 7/10 favourites Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, who are both 5/1 chances.
