Ruben Amorim has admitted Benjamin Sesko "needs time" to adapt to life at Manchester United following his £73.7million move from RB Leipzig.
Sesko, who came off the bench during United's 1-1 draw with Fulham, has been used sparingly by Amorim in his first two Premier League games, with the United boss opting to start fellow summer signing Matheus Cunha at striker.
Questioned on what he had made of the 21-year-old's start to his United career, Amorim pleaded for patience.
“I think he needs time. It's not easy to get sometimes you are on the bench and you go to the game and the game is really fast. I think he's understanding that the game is even faster than in the Bundesliga. But he's fighting,” Amorim said.
“He had some good connections with the teammates. I felt that when he was on the pitch, he was not in our best moment and that can change the way you see a player. So I'm really happy because he's putting all the effort.
“We need just to help. We need to be sometimes in the better moment to help him to show the quality that he has.”
United, who only scored 44 goals last season, netted their first goal of the new campaign against Fulham on Sunday as Leny Yoro’s header was deflected into the back of the net by Rodrigo Muniz.
Amorim, though, says he’s not worried about his side’s struggles in front of goal.
“The goals are going to (come). We are going to score goals because we are creating so many chances.”
Summer signings Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are both still waiting to open their accounts for United, but Amorim is confident their pair, alongside Sesko, can provide the goals needed to ensure United put last season’s 15th-place finish behind them.
“No, I forget about last season. I think the feeling is there. Like you said, when we were playing the game we scored a goal.”
United remain winless this season after Emile Smith Rowe’s 73rd minute equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw for Fulham at Craven Cottage.
They will, however, take positives from their opening two Premier League games, having dominated for large portions against Arsenal and Fulham.
