Manchester United ban supporter indefinitely over 'racist abuse of Trent Alexander-Arnold'

Manchester United have banned a supporter indefinitely over an incident of alleged racist abuse during Sunday's match against Liverpool FC.

According to reports, the fan aimed vile abuse at right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, calling him a 'f***ing black ****'.

It is understood United are not able to confirm who the abuse was aimed at, however it was directed at the pitch.

According to MailOnline, the incident happened in the Stretford End near to the players' executive boxes and angered those nearby.

The incident was reported to United and the fan was marched out of the stadium during the 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Greater Manchester Police have also been made aware.

United have since been able to identify the season-ticket holder involved and he has been informed in writing that he is no longer welcome at Old Trafford.

The supporter is able to appeal the decision.

A United spokesperson said: "Racism and all forms of discrimination are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our club.

"Following our investigation into the alleged incidence of racist abuse on Sunday, we have issued an indefinite ban to the individual involved.

"This individual is not welcome at Old Trafford and we want to reinforce that we will continue to take strong action against anyone who we identify has engaged in racist or discriminatory abuse, either online or at our matches."

The swift and strong action taken by United is the latest in a string of incidents involving racism in football.

Last week, England's Euro qualifier with Bulgaria almost ended with the players walking off due to racist abuse aimed at players.

Bulgarian football chiefs have been widely criticised for their handling of the problem which is being investigated by UEFA.
