Manchester United ban six supporters over abuse of Tottenham’s Heung-min Son

Manchester United have banned six supporters who allegedly abused Tottenham’s Heung-min Son on social media after their 3-1 win in London on April 11.

Spurs condemned the “abhorrent” abuse directed at Son after he was involved in a controversial decision to rule out an Edinson Cavani goal, before opening the scoring.

United have issued suspensions, subject to appeal, to three season ticket-holders, two members and one individual on their waiting list for a season ticket.

“This disciplinary action demonstrates the club’s commitment to the fight against discrimination on many fronts,” United said in a statement.

The Evening Standard’s sport channels will join English football’s social media boycott from 3pm today until to 11.59pm on Monday, in response to the ongoing and sustained abuse received online by players and many others connected to the game.

Meanwhile, Son has echoed Harry Kane’s assessment of Spurs’ season, insisting they should be doing much better ahead of Sunday’s visit of relegated Sheffield United.

Kane on Wednesday described Spurs’ campaign as “disappointing” and cast fresh doubt over his future by reiterating his desire to win team trophies.

Son made it his most prolific Premier League campaign with his 15th goal of the season against Southampton last week but says Spurs should be higher than seventh place.

“My goals are not important, I just wish my team was doing better than right now,” Son told Sky Sports.

“This club should be in a better position, 100 percent. We know that as well so that’s why the rest of the season is so important and we finish well to be happy.”
