Manchester United backed to finish above Chelsea in Premier League for one reason

Paul Merson is backing Manchester United to finish above Chelsea in the Premier League table.

Frank Lampard’s side currently occupy the final Champions League place after cruising to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday, but United are breathing down their neck after overcoming arch-rivals Manchester City on the same afternoon.

Just three points separates the two sides heading into the final few months of the season, but Sky pundit Merson is backing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to come out on top, as he believes they have a favourable run of fixtures between now and May.

“We were looking at United earlier in the season and thinking: 'How are they going to break teams down at home?'” Merson told Sky Sports.

“But now you look at them, and they've got two players who can pass it around, with the legs of Fred too. And with the pace up front, they're starting to look like a team.

“I think Manchester United are turning a corner, not a bend, but a major corner. I think Chelsea will do well to finish above United, with their fixtures.”

United have beaten Chelsea twice in the Premier League this season and in the Carabao Cup. Both teams have nine games remaining in their league campaigns, with United facing fellow top-four contenders Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
