Manchester United assistant Mike Phelan names two biggest Sevilla threats

Mike Phelan says Manchester United are well aware of the threat Sevilla pose ahead of their Europa League semi-final meeting this weekend.

United are preparing to face the Spanish side on Sunday night with the winners set to meet either Inter Milan or Shakhtar in next week's final.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side had to dig deep to overcome the resilience of FC Copenhagen in the last round while Sevilla battled hard to defeat Wolves in the last eight.

The Spanish side have won the tournament five times in the last fourteen years, with three of those being consecutive triumphs in the Europa League between 2014 and 2016, and their last win coming at the expense of Liverpool four years ago.

United will need to be at their best to win on Sunday night and Phelan has warned his side about their possession based approach, as well as their impressive technical abilities.

"We know how Sevilla operate," Phelan told MUTV. "They’re a very good outfit with very good technical players and great possession of the ball which they showed against Wolves in the last game.

"They’re a team to be reckoned with, both in their own domestic league and in Europe but particularly in this cup, they have some history in it. I think it’s two football teams going head-to-head in what could be a really good semi-final.”
