Manchester United appear to confirm new Dean Henderson squad number

Manchester United appear to have confirmed goalkeeper Dean Henderson will wear the No.26 in his first full season as a first-team squad member.

Henderson returned to United's Carrington training complex in August to begin training ahead of the new campaign having spent the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons on loan at Sheffield United.

Henderson started for United in their pre-season friendly against Aston Villa on Sunday and a graphic displayed by United's in-house TV channel had Henderson down as United's No.26.

The England youngster's new long-term United contract was confirmed on August 26 and he outlined his ambition to make an impact at Old Trafford.

“The pathway that I have been on for the past five years has been fantastic for my development and the invaluable loan period at Sheffield United has been part of that," said Henderson.

“The goalkeeping department at United is excellent; there are three top-level goalkeepers who have achieved so much in the game and I look forward to working with the group. The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper.

“I’ll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club.

“Now I am looking forward to joining up with the England squad and then preparing for the season ahead.”

Henderson was an unused substitute in England's Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark.
