Manchester United announce signing of Mary Earps

Manchester United have announced the signing of goalkeeper Mary Earps to their women's team.

The 26-year-old spent last season at Wolfsburg having moved to Germany, following two years at Reading, and only made three appearances during the last campaign.

Earps, who was part of the Lionesses World Cup squad, has had spells at various Women's Super League sides including Reading, Bristol and Birmingham, and is excited to be Casey Stoney's latest addition to the squad.

“I’m delighted to have signed for Manchester United," Earps said. "Something special is happening at the club and I’m excited to become a part of that. I feel like this is the perfect place for me to reach the next level in my career - I can’t wait to get started."

After storming the Championship in their maiden campaign last season, Stoney's side will be looking to impress in their first season in the Super League and the United manager has already made a number of signings this summer.

"Mary is a great addition to the team and will strengthen our goalkeeping department as we look to push on this season in the WSL; we are all looking forward to working with her," Stoney said about United's latest addition.

Earps is United's fifth signing of the summer with the club already announcing deals for Netherlands midfielder Jackie Groenen, England defender Abbie McManus, Birmingham City star Hayley Ladd and Scotland striker Jane Ross.

United's first game of the new campaign is against Manchester City and will be played at the Etihad on Saturday, September 7.
