Manchester United announce AC Milan youth friendly fixture

Manchester United have announced they will host AC Milan in a youth friendly fixture next month.

United's Under-19 side will take on their counterparts from AC Milan in a fixture at Leigh Sports Village on Friday 20 December, with kick-off at 7pm.

The fixture will be the second of its type this season after United drew 2-2 with Hertha Berlin at Altrincham's Moss Lane back in September.

Due to the senior side's failure to qualify for the Champions League last season, United's U19s were not invited to take part in the Youth League competition which runs in conjunction with the senior men's tournament.

A press release from the club explains the fixture has been organised in order to replicate the conditions of competitive European first-team football.

"The fixture is the latest in a number of enhancements made to our academy games programme, to provide experience for the club's youngsters," a press release on the official website said.

"The chance to face top European opposition helps replicate first-team football and it increases the variety of experiences our players are exposed to during their development."

United also confirmed there will be free entry for those wishing to attend the match.
