Manchester United and PSG charged by Uefa for supporter behaviour in Champions League clash

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been charged by Uefa following Tuesday's Champions League clash between at Old Trafford.

The French side were 2-0 winners on a feisty night on and off the pitch. United have been charged with throwing objects and blocking stairways, while the charges against PSG include setting off fireworks, throwing objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbances.

A bottle was thrown from the crowd towards PSG winger Angel Di Maria, who was booed throughout the game by the home fans on his return to Old Trafford having left the club in 2015.

The Argentine responded by picking up the bottle, that was filled with water, and pretended to drink from it.

An item from the stands also landed at the feet of Luke Shaw in the first half.

The Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will review the charges and deal with the cases on February 28.

Angel Di Maria had the last laugh and played a key role in PSG’s important 2-0 victory, despite missing key players Neymar and Edinson Cavani. The winger’s corner was convered by Presnel Kimpembe to open the scoring before Kylian Mbappe turned in Di Maria’s low cross to double the French side’s lead seven minutes later.

Italian referee Daniele Orsato had a busy night maintaining order on the pitch. 10 yellow cards were shown throughout the match, including two to Paul Pogba, who will now miss the second-leg in Paris in three weeks after being sent off late in the game.
