Manchester United and Manchester City to battle for midfielder; Tottenham Hotspur swoop for star midfielder; Chelsea star keen for move

The end of the Premier League season is nearly upon us and attention has started to shift towards the summer transfer window despite the fact there is still lots to be decided.

Clubs in the top-flight splashed an incredible amount of cash last year and that figure could be surpassed in the months ahead, as the heavy hitters in the league seek to improve their squad and those below them also chase new additions.

There is already a wealth of rumours floating around regarding what business could take place in the months ahead and we have gathered the latest gossip for you below.

Manchester United may face a battle to retain the services of David De Gea as Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are all monitoring his contract situation at Old Trafford, the Daily Express reports.

The Spain international is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract despite the fact his current deal only runs until next summer, where he would be available to leave for free if no agreement is men.

The Red Devils could frustrate rivals Manchester City in the transfer market though as ESPN reports Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have joined the hunt for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, a leading target for Pep Guardiola.

City seem genuinely concerned by the emergence of their rivals in the market, as the report states Guardiola has identified Saul’s Atletico teammate Rodri Hernandez as an ideal alternative.

Tottenham Hotspur are the favourites to capitalise on Fulham’s relegation from the Premier League by signing 18-year-old talent Ryan Sessegnon from their London rivals, the Mirror states.

The Cottagers’ immediate return to the Championship was confirmed this week following defeat to Watford and it is widely expected that Sessegnon will leave Craven Cottage this summer.

Across north London, the Daily Mail says Arsenal have begun interviewing new candidates to fill their technical director role after missing out on Monchi - who elected to return to Sevilla after leaving Roma.

Former winger Marc Overmars remains on the shortlist despite recently signing a contract extension with Ajax, while Marseille’s Andoni Zubizaretta is also under consideration.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is keen to move to Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis this summer when his loan deal from Real Madrid expires, Goal reports.

Manchester United dealt blow over David De Gea future; Liverpool and Arsenal set to miss out on major target; Chelsea confident over keeping Callum Hudson-Odoi

However, the Croatia international may see the situation taken out of his hands as the Blues are set for a transfer ban following a decision from FIFA made earlier this season.

West Ham veteran Pablo Hernandez could extend his stay at the club after revealing he is two games short of activating a clause in his contract, he told the Newham Recorder.

The 34-year-old has hinted that he could retire from football at the end of the season when his current deal with the Hammers expires.

Finally, the Mirror reports that Theo Walcott is set to become one of the first casualties of Everton’s of approach in the market as the Toffees seek to assemble a younger squad at Goodison Park.

The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour in the past month, playing a total of just 16 appearances following his introduction off the bench in the goalless Merseyside derby in March.
