Manchester United and Manchester City have some of the most talented football stars in the world playing for them but it’s not the ones you would necessarily expect who have the biggest value.
That’s according to CIES Football Observatory , who have issued their Weekly Post on the highest estimated transfer values among the top five European leagues.
Serie A’s most expensive talent is Juventus’ Paulo Dybala at €142m (£121m) euros, Ligue 1 has Kylian Mbappe at €228m (£194m), Lionel Messi heads up the La Liga still valued at €171m (£146m) despite being 31.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is the Bundesliga’s most prized asset at €148m (£126m), while Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane leads the way at €198m (£169m).
These are all to be expected somewhat but Manchester United’s most financially valuable player is not their costliest signing in history. Romelu Lukaku ousts Paul Pogba for top spot at the Red Devils with a transfer value of €159m (£135m).

Lukaku was signed from Everton for an initial £75m fee, while Pogba switched from Juventus back in 2016 for £89m. But now Lukaku is rated as more financially valuable than the French star, with Pogba only one year older than the Belgium international.
Man City’s most valuable player is a bit clearer. Raheem Sterling’s form over the last couple of years has been sensational and the England forward is still just 24. Sterling’s value is at €187m (£159m).
It’s highly unlikely the majority of these aforementioned players move in the summer transfer window but if any of them do, the buyers will certainly have to break the bank.
