The away allocations for both legs of the Manchester derby in the Carabao Cup semi-final are set to be cut due to a mutual decision between both clubs.
MEN Sport understands City fans will be given around 3,000 tickets for the first leg at Old Trafford on January 7 and United's away support will be given a similar number for the second leg at the Etihad on January 29.
League Cup rules stipulate that the visiting club have the right to claim 10 per cent of tickets, so that would be circa 7,000 for City's travelling support and 5,500 for United's, but it is understood a decision has made to reduce both allocations on safety grounds.
Since the draw last week, after City beat Oxford and United beat Colchester to book their places in the last four, officials from both clubs have been in discussions over allocation, with Greater Manchester Police also aware, and a mutual agreement has been reached that the number would be in line with Premier League allocation.
The extra tickets, which would normally have been given to away supporters, will then be sold to home supporters at both grounds.
It is understood the decision has been made for the safety of all supporters after incidents in the past and that a significant increase in away allocations above Premier League norms for two weekday evening derby matches would pose safety risks, particularly in light of incidents at recent Premier League fixture between the two clubs.
City are hoping to retain the trophy while United are hoping to lift it for the first since 2017.
