NBC Universal have signed a six-year broadcast deal with the Premier League to showcase the English top-flight in the United States until 2028, extending their coverage with exclusive rights for the Spanish language.
This announcement will see Manchester United, Manchester City and the other 18 clubs in the league reap the financial reward as NBC overcame US broadcast rivals CBS and ESPN in a deal worth $2.7billion for the next six years, more than double the previous $1.1bn agreement.
The deal comes after the Exclusion Order agreement enabled the investment of £1.6bn of broadcast revenue to lower-league, non-league, grassroots and its communities.
On Thursday, an extra £20m was pledged to the League One and Two sides this season and a new £5m would be provided to the top three divisions in the National League divisions for four years in their recovery from the financial strife that last year and parts of 2021 placed on the respective clubs.
The American broadcaster has been supporting the Premier League in broadening its reach across the North American continent since it became the home of English football in the region back in 2013.
In signing the deal, all 380 matches will be shown on NBC platforms each season.
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Masters, said: "We are delighted to announce our new US broadcast deal with NBC Sports, who have been brilliant partners for the Premier League over the last nine seasons. NBC Sports has significantly strengthened the popularity of the League in the United States in that time through its fantastic coverage and promotion.
“NBC Sports’ Premier League Mornings programming is now a real institution among supporters in America, with fans getting up early to come together and cheer on their favourite club, week in, week out. It’s an exciting time for football in the US and we look forward to continuing to work with NBC Sports to bring our competition to even more fans over the next six years.”
Following the coronavirus pandemic in early-2020, there were fears that the attraction of the Premier League in the United States had eased but the latest deal surpassed the $2bn that it was originally reportedly worth, double the previous agreement of $1.1bn.
"We are excited to come to this long-term extension with the Premier League," Pete Bevacqua, the NBC Sports Chairman said.
"Our Premier League team, led by Jon Miller, has been incredibly dedicated to growing the Premier League in the United States over the last nine years.
"This new agreement is also a testament to the hard work of production, marketing and other areas of our company, as well as the tremendous partnership that has been established with the leadership and club owners of the Premier League.”
