Manchester United and Man City players affected as England U21 cancel fixture

England under-21s have cancelled their fixture with Romania on Friday after two positive cases of Covid-19 were identified in the camp.

England say the two individuals were immediately isolated from the group, but the decision has been taken not to travel to Romania as a precaution.

Manchester United's on-loan midfielder James Garner is in the squad, while Manchester City have three representatives - Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle and Cole Palmer.

The under-21 squad have been based at St George's Park, along with the senior England squad who travelled to Hungary yesterday for their World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.

An FA statement read: "England men's under-21s will no longer travel to play Romania on Friday after two positive Covid-19 tests were reported within the party of players and support staff.

"It has been decided to cancel the trip as a precaution and our thanks go to the Romanian Football Federation for their understanding.

"The individuals concerned were immediately isolated from the rest of the group, with the squad still based at St George's Park.

"The Young Lions will switch focus to preparing for next Tuesday's home fixture with Kosovo at MK Dons to mark the start of qualifying for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship."
