Manchester United and Man City named among world's top 25 most valuable sports teams

Manchester United and Man City have been included on Forbes' list of the 50 most valuable sports teams in the world in 2022.

Both Manchester clubs have made it into the top 25 with United ranked 19th and City 2th — although both have fallen from their 2021 rankings of 11th and 13th respectively.

That is largely due to the huge increase in the values of NFL teams, brought about by the signing of the richest media deal in sport, worth $112 billion through 2032. Since last year United's value has increased from $4.2 billion to $4.6 billion, while City's has risen from $4 billion to $4.25 billion.

Those figures make the clubs the third and sixth most valuable football clubs in the world respectively. Real Madrid are top the football rankings with a value of $5.1 billion, with Barcelona following close behind at $5 billion. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are the fourth and fifth most valuable clubs respectively.

Forbes' team values are enterprise values, meaning they are calculated by adding net debt to equity. The values include the economics of each team's stadium as well as the rights fees they get from regional sports networks. The increase in both United and City's values will have been helped by the international broadcast rights topping UK right for the first time.

International rights will hit £5.05 billion, while UK broadcast rights will be worth £5 billion between 2022 and 2025.

No football teams have made it into the top 10, with American Football sides Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams making up the top three.
