Manchester United and Liverpool-backed European Premier League leaves Neville and Carragher raging

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has issued an X-rated social media message in the wake of the news Liverpool are backing a European Premier League.

FIFA are ready to throw their weight behind the invite-only venture that could become a rival to UEFA's Champions League.

But the Liverpool hero is clearly not a fan of the proposal and let rip on Twitter after the bombshell dropped on Tuesday afternoon.

Quoting the breaking story onto his Twitter account, the Sky Sports pundit simply wrote: "Oh f*** off."

Manchester United are said to be in support with their former star Gary Neville sending a topical message on social media.

He posted: "Independent Regulator Anyone?"

That comes after Neville and a host of big-name sporting stars called for an external body to take charge of the beautiful game that would act as a 'manifesto for change' in the English Premier League.

The report states that up to five English clubs could sign up for it, while FIFA are backing the tournament that would begin as early as 2022.

The new competition would see 18 clubs involved from the five top leagues and take place over the course of the usual European season.
