Manchester United and Daniel James stance on transfer amid Leeds United interest on deadline day

Daniel James and Manchester United have no intention of ceding to Leeds United's interest in a deadline day move and the player is set to remain at Old Trafford.

Marcelo Bielsa's admiration for the player is no secret, with Leeds keen to swoop for the winger they narrowly missed out on in January 2019 when a transfer from Swansea fell through at the 11th hour.

But, as MEN Sport reported earlier this summer, James is braced to stay at United and fight for his spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.

Sources close to the player say a move to Leeds 'was never on' despite the Elland Road club's interest in the past few weeks of the window. Rennes winger Raphinha appears to be closing on a Leeds transfer after their approach for Bayern Munich's Michaël Cuisance collapsed.

James was not part of United's 18-man matchday squad for Sunday's clash with Tottenham, though that absence was down to illness.

The 22-year-old was named in Ryan Giggs' Wales squad for their upcoming international friendly to face England and two further Nations League games.

And after the international break, the Welsh winger should link back up with United's squad at Carrington. It is thought that United's interest in Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri has no bearing on James' future. United have always wanted to bolster the wide positions this summer amid longstanding interest in Jadon Sancho and a possible deadline day swoop for Ousmane Dembele.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani all but ruled out a move for James, speaking to the media over the weekend.

“Dan [James] is on top of our list but seems he will be staying at Man United," he told  Stretty News. “There is nothing.”
