Manchester United winger Daniel James is attracting interest and could leave the club before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
MEN Sport understands a proposed move to Leeds is back on the table for James, who came within a whisker of an Elland Road transfer in January 2019 — before his switch to United from Swansea that summer.
Sources close to the player have always played down the chances of that Leeds move coming to fruition since his arrival at Old Trafford despite regular rumours.
James has, until now, been intent on staying and fighting for his spot. He's made 50 league appearances for United across two seasons since a £15million move from South Wales, playing 73 games in all competitions and scoring nine goals.
But the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at United — and the addition of Jadon Sancho earlier in the summer — means extra competition for places this season and, despite the fact James started at Wolves on Sunday, the Wales international could be among the fall guys.
It's understood Leeds are the frontrunners for James' signature, though other Premier League sides have registered an interest. United are open to keeping James and it's by no means certain that the 23-year-old will depart in the next 36 hours.
Jesse Lingard is the other forward player at United who could leave before the deadline — at 11pm on Tuesday — with West Ham still interested in bringing him back to the London Stadium.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now blessed with an embarrassment of riches in his forward line, with Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford all potentially to come into the starting line-up. James and Sancho flanked Mason Greenwood at Wolves on Sunday and Anthony Martial is another option.
Young winger Amad was set to leave United on loan for Feyernood but that move has been scuppered by an injury he sustained in training.
