Manchester United and Chelsea handed Moussa Dembele transfer boost by Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas

Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Moussa Dembele following remarks from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Manchester United have a long-standing interest in Dembele, while the Blues have made him one of their top transfer targets this summer after failing to land the former Fulham man in January.

Lyon were adamant he was not for sale at the time, but that stance appears to have softened after they missed out on European qualification for the first time since 1997.

The Ligue 1 club finished seventh after the French season was abandoned as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and Aulas has warned it could mean top stars now leave this summer.

"I am going to do everything to keep the players," the Lyon chief told Le Progres in France.

"But players who are programmed to play in Europe could want to go elsewhere because we don't have European football."
