Manchester United and Austria manager Ralf Rangnick told to focus on one job

German football legend Lothar Matthaus has questioned Ralf Rangnick's decision to take on two jobs at Manchester United and in Austria.

On Friday it was announced that the current interim manager of United will take over as manager of the Austrian national team. Rangnick was always set to step aside at the end of the season to allow Erik ten Hag to take control and the German was scheduled to move into a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

Rangnick has confirmed he would remain as a consultant for United as well as the manager of Austria. He explained in a statement: "I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United.

"I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again." However, Bayern Munich legend Matthaus, is unsure how Rangnick will be able to complete both jobs effectively.

He told Sport Buzzer : "First of all, I don’t necessarily think it’s good to do two jobs. Even Ralf Rangnick, who I appreciate as an expert, should focus on one job.

"I wouldn’t have done that now as Austria. They had other options, they had national candidates on their list.

"But if he reconciles that – and Austria accepts it – then that’s one thing I don’t want to interfere with." United are next in action on Monday night when they host Brentford at the Theatre of Dreams.
