Manchester United 'alter terms of David de Gea contract offer'

Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer David de Gea a new £350,000-a-week contract in a bid to keep the Spanish goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

The Sun say the deal will be a four-year one until 2023 with the option for the club to extend it by a further year.

United had previously offered De Gea £300,000 a week and that offer had been on the table for several months, but the 28-year-old had turned his nose up at that as he eyed a salary closer to that of top earner Alexis Sanchez.

The report adds that United are confident De Gea will stay at the club on the improved terms.

Elsewhere, United have missed out on yet another centre-back target if a report from Germany is to be believed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to reinforce his defence with the addition of a commanding centre-back this summer but United look set to lose out in the race to sign Matthijs de Ligt, while the Reds have been quoted huge fees for Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to German newspaper Bild, United were also rejected by Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels before the 30-year-old agreed a deal in principle to return to former club Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £27.5million.

That's despite United reportedly offering Hummels a higher wage than Dortmund to bring the World Cup winner to Manchester. Hummels apparently chose to go back to his old club because he wants to play in the Champions League next season.
