Manchester United agree to sell Ashley Young to Inter Milan for £1.3m

Ashley Young is on the verge of completing a move to Inter Milan after Manchester United agreed a fee of around £1.3m for their club captain.

Young has already agreed a deal in principal with the Italian giants and is keen to secure a move this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær is reluctant to weaken his squad without bringing in reinforcements - but with United closing in on a deal for Bruno Fernandes, it has paved the way for Inter to get their man.

Young was also the subject of interest from Lazio and Crystal Palace - but Inter was his preferred destination, following in the footsteps of former teammates Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

United hastily tabled a new one-year deal for the 34-year-old, which was rejected.

While Solskjær’s preference was to keep the full back until at least the end of the season, he is well covered in that department in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot.

Young's move to San Siro will end an eight-and-a-half season association with United, having joined from Aston Villa for a fee rising to £20 million in the summer of 2011.

The 34-year-old will depart United having won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield with the club, adding the Europa League in the 2016-17 season under Jose Mourinho.

Young's arrival could be the first of three raids on the Premier League by Inter and head coach Antonio Conte, with Tottenham's Christian Eriksen and Chelsea's Olivier Giroud also of interest.
