Manchester United agree personal terms with Mason Mount

Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount has agreed personal terms with Manchester United.

It is understood Mount's representatives, his father Tony and agent Neil Fewings, have held advanced discussions with United but there is no agreement between the clubs on a fee yet.

Although new Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino was viewed as the ideal mentor for Mount, the England international wants to leave Stamford Bridge.

Exclusive: United halve Elanga asking price

United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on adding a young midfielder and Mount, 24, is out of contract at Chelsea next year.

Ten Hag indicated last year he would prefer to recruit English players but admitted the valuation of certain targets was too high.

"I would like to sign English players because I think there is only one criteria and that's quality in combination with the price," Ten Hag said in July. "It looks like English players are quite expensive. It's a fact you cannot deny. In the end, it's about quality."

Mount has won the Champions League and Club World Cup with Chelsea and he was a starter in their three successive FA Cup final defeats between 2020-22, as well as their League Cup final loss to Liverpool on penalties last year.

The Chelsea academy graduate started for England in the European Championship final against Italy in 2021 and he has attained 36 caps.

United have not ended their interest in Tottenham striker Harry Kane, whose deal also expires next year, but they are operating under the assumption he will remain at Spurs this summer.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has indicated Kane will not be sold and United are actively pursuing other options.
