Manchester United 'agree' £30m Liam Delap transfer - but there is a catch

Manchester United are reportedly waiting on the green light from Liam Delap in their pursuit of the Ipswich striker.

The 22-year-old was a standout player for the Tractor Boys this season, scoring 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances whilst also chipping in with a couple of assists.

Ipswich’s relegation from the top flight means the £30m release clause in Delap’s contract can be activated this summer and he is expected to be on the move once the transfer window officially opens on June 1.

It has been reported by ESPN that the Red Devils have already agreed the framework of a deal for the England U21 international and are now waiting for the striker to decide on his next move.

It is claimed United have informed Ipswich that they will meet the £30 million release clause in Delap's contract if he gives the green light for a move to Old Trafford.

Furthermore, the report states the outline of personal terms have also been agreed with Delap's representatives and the transfer could move quickly once a decision is communicated.

Ruben Amorim’s side are facing competition from Chelsea and Newcastle for Delap’s signature.

Unlike those clubs, Man United cannot offer the 22-year-old Champions League football next season and it has previously been reported his final decision could be swayed by whether the Red Devils were back at Europe’s top table.
