Manchester United youngster Amad could be tasked with operating as a striker for loan club Sunderland following confirmation of Everton's decision to recall striker Ellis Simms.
Like Amad, Simms joined the Black Cats, who are currently fourth in the Championship table, in the summer on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old had impressed on Wearside, scoring seven goals in 17 appearances.
His performances and respectable goals tally has meant that Everton, ahead of the second half of the Premier League season, have made the decision to recall him much earlier than planned. He will officially return to the Toffees on January 1 and could be available to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, subject to clearance being granted.

Simms' return to Everton leaves Sunderland light on out-and-out strikers, although they have recently recovered star man Ross Stewart from a lengthy injury lay-off. The Scot scored 26 goals to fire them to promotion last season and has bagged an impressive eight goals, as well as claiming three assists, in just ten matches this season.
Although Sunderland have Stewart to rely on, he is their only recognised striker, meaning United loanee Amad could be tasked with moving inside and operating in a central role until the Black Cats source a replacement for Simms. The former Atalanta man, who bagged his fourth goal in his last six games during Thursday night's 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic, has played as a striker at times this season, covering for Stewart whilst he was out injured.
Amad, since Stewart's return, has moved into a more natural wide role, operating on the right-flank. It is from that position where he has found his recent good run of form.
But considering Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray, following Thursday's win at Wigan, admitted that he was struggling to get Amad and fellow winger Patrick Roberts into the same team, Simms' departure, as big a blow as that is for the club, could enable him to do that, moving Amad back centrally and deploying Roberts, formerly of Manchester City, out wide.
"I've said before that I have to find a way of getting these two (Roberts and Amad) players on the pitch, and yet with the injuries today I felt that the only shape to keep players in positions they know was to go with a back three - and that is why Patrick came out of the team," said Mowbray.
"It was harsh on him and when he plays with Amad - it's quite amazing to watch really. It must be frustrating to play against, too.
"It's my job to get them on the pitch at the same time but it might not always be from the start."
Sunderland are next in action on New Year's Day, facing relegation-threatened Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
