Manchester United will face competition to sign Kalvin Phillips from Liverpool over a potential £60m deal, according to reports.
However, their attempts to sign the Leeds United man may be scuppered due to his allegiances with his current club and their rivalry with the Reds.
The Daily Star claims Phillips has been listed as a transfer priority for next year.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are bracing themselves for the exit of midfielder Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman was sent off in their last outing after being introduced 15 minutes earlier following a lunge on Naby Keita but his future remains unclear as his contract edges towards a conclusion.
Sources have reportedly told ESPN that they are accepting the midfielder will not sign an extension and they will lose the Nations League and World Cup winner in the summer.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Pogba's former club Juventus have previously expressed their interest in recent moves but it is reported that they will not make a move in January opting to undergo negotiations in the summer.
