Manchester traffic delays expected as Club Brugge fans plan march ahead of Man City game

Motorists have been warned to expect traffic delays in Manchester city centre on Wednesday as Club Brugge fans are planning to walk to the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgian club will face Manchester City in a Champions League Group A fixture, with kick-off coming at 8pm tonight (Wednesday), and the Blues aiming to go within a point of qualifying for the knockout stages with a victory.

Pep Guardiola's side defeated Brugge handily in the reverse fixture a fortnight ago, winning 5-1 in Belgium thanks to goals from Joao Cancelo, Kyle Walker, Cole Palmer and a double from Riyad Mahrez.

Despite the loss and the fact they are unlikely to make it out of the group, Brugge will be well supported by their travelling fans for the match — and they plan to make their presence known in the city.

Transport for Greater Manchester has warned that drivers should expect delays in the city centre, especially around Great Ancoats Street, as the Brugge supporters will be marching en masse to the ground.

In a tweet, TfGM said: "An away fans walk will take place today from the city centre to the Etihad Stadium for the #UCL match.

"This could cause delays to drivers, particularly those travelling on Great Ancoats Street.

"Re-route your journey to avoid the area or allow additional time to travel."
