Manchester teenager found dead on railway tracks

A teenager has been found dead on train tracks in south Manchester.


The 19-year-old's body was discovered on the lines near to East Didsbury station on Saturday night.


The circumstances surrounding his death are currently unclear and it detectives are treating it as "unexplained".


British Transport Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene just after 8pm to reports of a "casualty on the tracks".


The man, who is believed to be from Manchester, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Manchester Evening News, his family have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
BTP say an "urgent investigation" has been launched.


Officers trying to trace the man's movements prior to the tragic incident and want to speak with anyone who was at East Didsbury station that evening and may have seen the man.


He is described as being white, around six foot, slim build, with dark hair and wearing a blue waterproof jacket, black sweater, jeans and brown boots.


DCI Tim Tubbs from BTP said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of this young man.

"Specially trained officers are now supporting them as they come to terms with this devastating news.


"At this time we are treating his death as unexplained and we have launched an urgent investigation to determine exactly what happened.


"We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of East Didsbury station yesterday evening and saw something which they think might be relevant to contact us as soon as possible.
