A murder investigation has been launched in Old Trafford after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death.
Officers swarmed on the area at Norton Street shortly before 6pm after reports of a stabbing on Thursday.
The teenager, who has not been named, was found suffering stab wounds after being attacked by two "unknown males".
He was taken to hospital, but despite the efforts of paramedics, he died a short time later.
No arrests have been made and there is an increased police presence in the area.
A crime scene has been established and officers from the Major Incident Team have begun leading the investigation.
Two further crime scenes have been set up - one on Upper Chorlton Road, where a vehicle has been recovered that is believed to have been involved in a collision.
Another crime scene is on Cross Street, where a collision between another vehicle and a pedestrian occurred a short time later.
The pedestrian's injuries are not believed to be serious.
Officers said they are keen not to rule out any lines of inquiry at this time, and are currently treating the vehicle as linked to the investigation, while forensic tests are carried out.
Greater Manchester Police Detective Superintendent Danny Inglis said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim's family at this incredibly sad time, they are being supported by our specialist officers.
"This is an horrific incident, where a young man has tragically lost his life, and we are following a number of lines of inquiry to establish exactly what has happened, and to bring those responsible to justice.
"We know this happened at a time of day when people would still be out and about or returning home, and we're keen to hear from anyone who may have information that could help our investigation, no matter how small it may seem."
There was shock on social media as people responded to reports of the stabbing.
One said on Twitter: "Feeling very sad that parents have had the worst news possible tonight for [their] son who hasn’t even had the chance to live his life yet he’s still a baby my thoughts are with his family and friends."
Another wrote: "Such a senseless loss. My sympathy goes to his family and friends. Why do people carry knives?"
Many went on to pay tribute on Facebook to the teenager who died.
One person said: "My thoughts and prayers go out to this young man and his family at this sad time May You Rest In Peace little Man another young life taken to soon."
Another said: "[Oh my God] absolutely heart-breaking. Thoughts are with his family and friends, when will this stop."
While one said: "How many times? When will this madness ever stop. It is absolutely ridiculous now. Another life gone far too soon."
