Manchester snow: Genius commuter bypasses huge traffic jam on pair of skis in Didsbury

Manchester was plagued by major travel disruption on Wednesday morning with snowfall shutting its airport and jamming roads with traffic.

Luckily, however, one commuter had an ingenious idea to avoid the commotion.

As masses of vehicles struggled during morning rush hour in the Didsbury area of the city, one man calmly passed by the stationary traffic… on a pair of skis.

The man, dressed head to toe in thick protective clothing, looked more suited to a holiday in the Alps than the north-west of England.

But no one was doubting his technique as he breezed through the traffic jam.

And for those stuck in the cold while waiting for delayed public transport, he at least brightened their morning.

Gabrielle Sanderson told the Standard: “People were held up at the bus stop so there was quite a lot of people laughing and amused by his innovative thinking.”

Almost all of the UK remained on snow and ice alert on Wednesday, with the country facing "very significant snowfall" amid even lower temperatures later this week.
