Manchester's metal pub Grand Central has been saved - and its long-lost nightclub is coming back

Manchester's much-loved Grand Central pub, a 'second home' for the city's rock and metal scene, will reopen under new management.

Last week, the news broke that the pub and gig venue would be closing, with hundreds of locals sharing their sadness and memories on social media.

But new operators have now swooped in, and are determined to 'keep the ethos and music policy of Grand Central alive'.

A statement from Teddy's Pubs has confirmed that they will take over the operation of the site, which is owned by Stonegate Pubs.

Their plans for the building include resurrecting the long-lost bar and club in the basement 'as soon as humanly possible'.

Subway was a popular part of the alternative scene in the late 1990s but fell silent in the early 2000s.

The statement read: "Stonegate Pubs are the landlords of the site but are not the operators, and we thank them for their support in getting this deal moving so quickly as to save GC from becoming a beige venue.

"Grand Central is and has been at the heart of Manchester’s alternative scene for decades.

"This legendary pub and gig venue has been a 'second home' for rock music fans for decades and we took the view that this cannot be lost.

"We will endeavour to keep the ethos and music policy of Grand Central alive and growing far into the future."

A recruitment drive for staff and management is now underway ahead of Grand Central's reopening on Thursday August 5.
