Manchester's huge Deansgate Square development has confirmed the first opening of summer.
The team behind Stretford Foodhall and Ancoats General Store will be setting up an independent corner shop at the foot of the impressive skyscrapers.
Store Retail Group's new 4,500 sq ft unit will include a space for a street food trader as well as a fresh flower concept.
With floor-to-ceiling windows, the new site has been designed by local studio YOUTH and will bring together coffee shop, bar and grocery store.
The Deansgate Square General Store will be the first commercial partner to open at the group of four skyscrapers, which featured heavily in hit documentary Manctopia.
Towering over the city at the bottom of Deansgate, the buildings are home to more than 3000 residents as well as the city's only riverside square.
Mital Morar, MD of Store Retail Group said: "Deansgate Square felt right for us straight away.
"The number of residents on site makes sound commercial sense for us, as well as the opportunity to work in a close-knit community, as we do at Ancoats.
"We’re excited to be part of a new thriving neighbourhood, and to expand our presence in the city centre.
"As a destination that will continue to evolve, we see Deansgate Square as a great, long-term investment."
More commercial operators will be announced in the coming months, each a local independent business.
Discussing the openings, James Sidlow, senior development manager at Renaker, commented: "We’ve long admired how General Store create beating hearts at the centre of their neighbourhoods.
"We hope they, along with the host of other well-loved Manchester brands still to be announced, will bring all this and more to Deansgate Square."
