Manchester Pride adds Yungblud to festival bill as surprise headliner

Manchester Pride has revealed its surprise secret headliner for this weekend's festival.

Yungblud, the award-winning singer hailed as the 'future of rock and roll' by Dave Grohl, will perform at MCR Pride Live on Saturday.

He joins Sigala, Example and Annie Mac on the first day of the live music event, while Sunday will see headline performances from Zara Larsson, Gabrielle and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Manchester Pride say that Yungblud is the 'final piece of the puzzle' in their 'boldest, queerest, most diverse and inclusive Manchester Pride Festival yet'.

Real name Dominic Harrison, the 24-year-old singer has won Attitude magazine's Gamechanger Award as well as an NME Award, and a BRIT Award nomination.

Yungblud credits his queer fans with helping him discover his own sexuality.

Manchester Pride said of Yungblud: "He’s huge right now and we know that he will bring something very new, exciting and queer to our First Street stage this weekend."

Rapper Eve was set to perform on Saturday but has pulled out, saying: "Due to unforeseen circumstances I’m so sorry to say I won’t be able to play at Manchester Pride this year.

"I’m absolutely gutted I won’t get to play and share pride celebrations with you all, but I hope I can come back and play for you all in 2022. Happy Pride! Love Eve x"

Eve will be replaced by House Gospel Choir, an electrifying house music-meets-gospel experience with more than 150 members including singers, a full house band and DJ.

While MCR Pride Live is taking place on Saturday and Sunday at First Street, the rest of the Manchester Pride Festival will run for four days with a huge party and even more music, entertainment and celebration in the gay village.

The parade has been cancelled this year, but several equality marches will go ahead.

Other events on the billing include the Superbia event, Your Pride MCR, Family Pride and the Human Rights Forum.
