Train services are disrupted due to a points failure, with the delays expected to last all day.
The glitch is affecting services running between Manchester Piccadilly and Rose Hill Marple.
It is understood the points failure took place near to Hyde North.
National Rail are warning train services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.
Coaches have been organised to run from Ashburys to Romiley for affected passengers.
According to National Rail, the delays are expected to last until the end of the day.
A statement on the National Rail website said: "A points failure between Manchester Piccadilly and Rose Hill Marple is causing disruption to journeys between these stations.
"Services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised. This is affecting trains in the direction of Manchester Piccadilly to Rose Hill Marple only.
"Sky Coaches are running from Ashburys to Romiley.
"We anticipate disruption will continue until the end of the day."
