Manchester Piccadilly station rush-hour disruption and delays due to broken-down train

A broken down train is causing disruption and delays to some services at Manchester Piccadilly station.

The train has come to a full stop near to Ashburys station, causing delays between Hadfield and Piccadilly, New Mills and Piccadilly as well as Rose Hill Marple and Piccadilly.

Northern and Transpennine Express services may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

The delays are expected to last through most of rush hour until around 9am this morning.

Passengers can claim a refund if their train is delayed by more than 15 minutes.

A tweet from Northern said: "Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised."

Commuters have shared their frustration over the delays on social media.

One Twitter user posted: "I assume it’s one of your ancient trains that has broken down at Ashburys and has caused me to seek alternative transport to Manchester.

"Nice work. Also yesterday two trains cancelled/delayed - Bredbury - Manchester."
