Manchester Metrolink tram disruption across city centre this weekend due to underground repairs

Tram services will be disrupted across Manchester city centre this weekend while urgent underground repairs are carried out.

Electricity North West is carrying out utility work until Sunday after an underground fire near Balloon Street last month.

No Metrolink services will be operating through Victoria Station while other tram services across the city centre are also reduced.

The Bury, East Didsbury, Manchester Airport, and Rochdale via Oldham lines are all affected.

TfGM say tram services this weekend will operate as follows:

  • Altrincham – Piccadilly
  • Ashton – Eccles (via MediaCityUK)
  • Bury – Queens Road
  • East Didsbury – Exchange Square
  • Etihad Campus – MediaCityUK
  • Manchester Airport – Firswood
  • Rochdale – Monsall
  • Shaw & Crompton – Monsall
  • Trafford Centre – Cornbrook

A replacement bus service will operate to connect Bury and Rochdale services into the city centre.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the underground fire on June 9.

Roads were also closed due to the incident, which prompted a major emergency services response at 9.20am.

TfGM said the small fire was caused by a build-up of gas.
