Manchester logistics firm expands into major new head office and distribution centre

A Manchester-based logistics firm providing warehousing and national distribution solutions for major retailers and food and drinks manufacturers has expanded into a major new head office and distribution centre.

Romac Logistics has moved into the new unit on Stakehill Industrial Estate in Middleton, owned by COIF Charities Property Fund.

Romac said the move enhances its UK locations and service offering, adding an 80,000 sq ft temperature controlled warehouse to its portfolio, which sits in a 8.5-acre site close to the M62.

Rob McAdoo from Romac said: “At this stage in our growth it was important to evolve our service offering whilst taking stock of our infrastructure.

"In consolidating two of our smaller operations and merging the head office into the distribution centre at Stakehill Industrial Estate we will deliver an abundance of efficiencies that will ultimately benefit our customers.

“The new facility also provides us with a fantastic office space that will accommodate our senior leadership team, customer services, network planning and finance functions, all under one roof. This will further enhance the level of service our customers enjoy and give us space to grow as we embark on our next phase of expansion.”

Romac was founded in Manchester in early 2018 and has rapidly expanded since then.

The company operates more than 200 tractor units and 350 trailers throughout the UK, with additional bases in Leeds, Bolton, Doncaster, Avonmouth, County Durham, Wednesbury, Southampton, Northfleet, Bridgend and Peterborough.

Property consultancy Gent Visick advised Romac Logistics and negotiated the leasehold acquisition.

The site was marketed by BC Real Estate on behalf of CCLA, fund managers for the owner, the COIF.

Daniel Walker, from Gent Visick, added: “Stakehill Industrial Estate will make a fantastic HQ for Romac Logistics in a prime location.

"The site will see continued growth of the business through a cold store facility and oversized service yard, so it ticks every box for Romac Logistics and successfully negotiating this deal on the company’s behalf is a great result.”

John Barton, from BC Real Estate, added: “This unit meets a very high standard, within a mile of the M62 and in an established industrial estate, surrounded by well-known businesses, so we generated high levels of interest in it from a wide range of potential occupiers.

"To agree this deal, with a fast growing and reputable local business, is a superb outcome for our client.”
