Manchester has a new highest restaurant 100m up - for now

A new pop-up restaurant is preparing to welcome diners this month, stealing the title of Manchester's highest dining space.

Situated 100m high, the restaurant will sit eight metres above 20 Stories in Spinningfields, offering panoramic views of the city's skyline.

The project will see the duo behind Higher Ground take over the penthouse apartments at Moda Angel Gardens, on the edges of the Northern Quarter near Manchester Victoria.

Higher Ground was previously positioned in the old security cabin on stilts at Kampus, opposite Canal Street.

The residency is led by Joseph Otway, who was formerly head chef at Stockport's acclaimed Where the Light Gets In and has also worked at Copenhagen's Michelin-starred Relæ, and Richard Cossins, formerly general manager at Fera at Claridges in London and New York's Blue Hill Stone Barns restaurant, where the pair met.

With only four dates available, the limited series is part of the Manchester Food and Drink Festival programme for 2020.

Guests will have to book tickets in advance - on the night, they'll be welcomed with a drink before sitting down to a four-course meal with paired wines.

Ingredients will be sourced from across the north west - including sea buckthorn from Pomona Island.

Once the pop-up finishes, Higher Ground will be moving over to Ducie Street Warehouse for October, filling the space left vacant by Bistrotheque back in February.

Moda Angel Gardens is one of the city's newest and most luxury apartment complexes, with its own rooftop sports pitch and cinema room.

Tickets for the Moda + Higher Ground Penthouse suppers are priced at £100 per person and are on sale now at eventbrite.co.uk/e/moda-higher-ground-supper-club-tickets.
