Manchester flight delayed for seven hours after 'passenger opened emergency exit instead of toilet door'

A confused airplane passenger reportedly opened the emergency exit thinking it was the toilet door, resulting in severe delays.

The flight from Manchester Airport was postponed for seven hours after the incident caused the emergency chute to be deployed.

A spokeswoman for the airport confirmed it was a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight that was delayed at Terminal 2 on Friday night.

The flight was scheduled to depart for Pakistan, but this was pushed back when a female passenger reportedly opened the rear emergency door of the PIA jet, according to the M.E.N.

Some 37 passengers had to be off-loaded - although not via the chute - while engineers came to the scene.

Seven hours later, the flight resumed its journey to Pakistan.

Officials at Manchester Airport say that reports suggesting the aircraft was on the runway when the incident happened are incorrect.

PIA spokesperson Mashood Tajwar told the Pakistan-based The Express Tribune that 'there was no threat of any kind'.

The M.E.N. has contacted PIA for a comment.
