Manchester Dogs' Home has reopened - take a look at some of the pups looking for loving new homes

Manchester Dogs' Home has announced that it has reopened its doors at long last.

The rescue shelter has been closed since March 23 but has continued to care for around 100 dogs throughout lockdown.

It reported a major dip in donations over the last few months, with manager Steve Mapley appealing for both food and cash donations last month.

Now there's hope on the horizon for the dogs at the shelter, as they will finally be allowed to meet with their potential forever families.

Visits will be by appointment only at both its Harpurhey shelter and at Cheshire Dogs' Home in Warrington.

Posting the news with a picture of a hand sanitising station fastened to the gate, the charity said it was 'very pleased' to be open again and thanked people for their support and patience.

Those who are interested in adopting a dog can see those who are looking for new homes at the Manchester Dogs' Home website before making an appointment on 0844 504 1212.

Here are a few of the lovable pooches looking for their forever homes.

Lucy

Lucy has been at the shelter throughout lockdown (Manchester Dogs Home)

Lucy is a beautiful four-year-old crossbreed who apparently loves people and company.

She has been at the shelter since March 2 and is looking for an active home.

Ideally she'll need to be the only dog in the home, and she's not a big fan of cats either.

Sunny

Sunny the Staffy (Manchester Dogs Home)

Judging by the lack of contact between his paws and the ground in his profile, Sunny is a typically bouncy Staffy.

He's eight years old and although loves to play with his toys and other dogs, will apparently be very happy with a fireplace to snooze in front of.

Sunny is a tan Staffordshire Bull Terrier who's been at the shelter since October last year - how could anyone resist that face?

Ruby

Ruby the cross breed loves walks (Manchester Dogs Home)

She might be 10 years old, but Ruby is apparently still a very active little pooch.

She's a small cross breed who loves her toys and walks, but isn't a fan of cats.

She'll also need to be the only dog in her new home.

Kai

Kai the Husky (Manchester Dogs Home)

Handsome Kai is a two-year-old Husky who was taken in by Manchester Dog's Home just before lockdown.

He doesn't like cats, tends to pull on his lead, and needs a very active home.

He'll apparently benefit from some basic training and will surely be a loving companion for someone with the patience and skill.

Kobi

Kobi (Manchester Dogs Home)

Little Kobi is an adorable seven-year-old Shih-Tzu looking for a new home.

He's fine to go to a home with children, gets on well with other dogs, and walks nicely on his lead.

If you'd like to make an appointment with Manchester Dogs' Home, call the reception on 0844 504 1212.

The charity is asking for patience as phone lines are expected to be very busy.
